Small home appliance are usually machines that are portable and usually are used in general household tasks. Small home appliances are usually found on counters and or table tops. Examples of small appliances are microwaves, kettles, coffee machines etc. These small home appliances that are usually used in homes usually have a commercial version. These commercial appliances are designed to be used in restaurants and or any other similar setting in which the commercial appliance will be used regularly. Commercial appliances are used for heavy duty tasks as opposed to small home appliances. For example, a commercial waffle iron will be able to make several waffles simultaneously as opposed to a small appliance waffle iron that can generally only make one or two waffles at the same time. Due to the power required for such heavy-duty specialised usage, commercial appliances are generally connected to an electrical outlet that can handle the amount of power required for its continuous usage. Some examples of the commonly used commercial appliances are: commercial ovens, griddles, steam cookers, fryers, ice makers, dishwashers, refrigerators and freezers which are usually used in restaurants, catering businesses, research laboratories and or mass food production businesses.
The main differences between commercial and small home appliances are that:
- Usage of the Appliances
Commercial appliances are designed to withstand the high level of usage and or mass production in a restaurant or an industrial setting. They also generally have more features which would be redundant in a small home appliance. Small appliances are used to minimise the function of large machinery, i.e. a kettle boils water faster and uses less electricity than boiling water in a pot over the stove.
Commercial appliances are more expensive than ordinary household appliances. Small home appliances are generally inexpensive and regardless of how high-end the appliances are they still fall significantly short to the price of commercial appliances.
- Functionality and requirements
Compliance appliances are designed to be more specialised in their intended function than small home appliances. They also require expert maintenance and repair; commercial appliances are not designed for “DIY’s”. Trying to fix a commercial appliance by yourself is a recipe for disaster as they differ from ordinary small home appliances which can be fixed by the simple twist and turn of a screw and a nob. Commercial appliances are aesthetically different in structure and components and as such require a specialised expert who is usually incredibly expensive to keep them running smoothly.
Commercial appliances are not only beneficial for businesses (commercial kitchens) they are also beneficial to homes that require the use of commercial appliances as opposed to small home appliances, particularly because there is a variety of innovative commercial appliances that businesses can choose from, per their business’s needs, specs and objectives. These appliances can increase a business’s efficiency levels and increase their chances of making a profit. As expensive as the purchase price of commercial appliances is and the maintenance of this machinery is not any less expensive, they are an investment into your business and or home.
